Motorway bridge over the Drava, Croatia
Osijek,
Croatia
- New construction of a 2,485 m long bridge as part of the A5 motorway development in eastern Croatia, consisting of one suspension bridge and approach bridges in the flood area of the River Drava.
- Two foreland bridges each approx. 1,000 m long, designed as beam bridges each with 35 m span widths
- construction with pre-fabricated pre-stressed concrete beams
- supported on circular reinforced concrete piers with 180 cm diameters and mushroom-shaped heads.
- Cable-stay bridge with 3 segments (100 m / 220 m / 100m spans), suspended on two A-shaped pylons with heights of 75 m
- carriageway realized using a steel composite construction.

The Project
Impressions from the project process
A VARIOKIT cantilevered parapet carriage serves for constructing the external cantilevered parapets. The horizontal loads are transferred via friction, anchoring is not required.
The precast beams of the foreland bridges are supported on 180 cm thick circular columns complete with mushroom shaped heads – thanks to the specially prepared PERI steel formwork, the best concrete surface results have been achieved.
The internal cantilevered parapets of the two separate carriageways are efficiently formed by means of an intelligently planned, movable solution: both sets of formwork are suspended on a construction consisting of VARIOKIT and PERI Up system components which can quickly be moved to the next concreting section.
Two 75 m high, A shaped pylons carry the three main bridge segments with a total length of 420 m. Efficient construction has been ensured by PERI engineers by combining the CB and RCS climbing systems to create a customized formwork solution.
In the lower part, a cross connection for the pylon legs serves as bracing; the legs converge a few metres below the head.
On the forward and reversed-inclined outer walls, the rail-guided RCS formwork is climbed by means of mobile hydraulic units; the CB climbing formwork on the front sides is moved to the next casting segment by crane. For this project, this combination provides the optimum solution regarding speed and material costs.

As has been the case for many years, PERI has also provided us with reliable support during this project. The VARIOKIT solution perfectly combines functionality, flexibility, reliability and faster assembly. With the quickly understood, practical solutions, we can optimally fulfil all technical requirements of the project. As usual, the PERI solution takes into account all required details.
